Welcome to COSMIC QUEST
COSMIC QUEST is an international astronomy competition organized by the STEM October Astronomy Club (SOAC) specifically designed for grade 9 and high school students worldwide.
Our Mission
The purpose of COSMIC QUEST is to attract attention to the wonders of the cosmos through an engaging two-round challenge that tests your knowledge and passion for astronomy and astrophysics.
Who Can Participate
Eligibility: Open to all high school students and grade 9 students
Team Size: Each team must consist of exactly three members
Global Competition: Students from around the world are welcome
Core Competition Topics
1. Introduction to Astronomy
Fundamental principles of astronomical observation, celestial mechanics, and the structure of the universe.
2. Stellar Astronomy
Star formation, stellar evolution, stellar classification, and the life cycles of stars from birth to death.
3. Planetary Science
Solar system dynamics, planetary formation, exoplanets, and comparative planetology.
Core Topics Continued
4. Galactic & Extragalactic Astronomy
Structure and dynamics of galaxies, galaxy classification, dark matter, and large-scale structure of the universe.
5. Cosmology & Astrophysics
Big Bang theory, cosmic microwave background, dark energy, and the evolution and fate of the universe.

Teams must register online using this form before the deadline. Once registered, you'll receive:

First Round: Open Round
Format & Details
Questions: 30 analytical questions covering all key astronomy and astrophysics topics
Duration: Three days (September 17-20, 2025)
Flexibility: Teams can participate at their own pace during the competition window
Tracking: Live scoreboard displays real-time team rankings
What to Expect
The first round will test your foundational knowledge across all five core topics. Questions will range from basic concepts to more complex analytical problems that require critical thinking and application of astronomical principles.
Second Round: Invitational Round
Selection Criteria
Top 32 teams from the first round will be invited based on their final scores and rankings. Only the best performers advance to this elite round!
Live Monitoring Requirements
Supervision An organizer will supervise and question the 2 teams
Camera On: Keep your camera on to ensure integrity and fairness
Qualification Each winner team of a wave will qualify to the next till the end.

Team Formation & Rules
Team Requirements
Team Size: Up to 3 students per team
Grade Level: Currently enrolled in grade 9 or high school (grades 9-12)
Registration: All team members must register together under one team name
Limitation: Each student can only be part of one team
Code of Conduct
Academic Honesty: Teams are expected to maintain the highest standards of academic integrity
Respectful Behavior: Professional and respectful conduct is required throughout the competition
Zero Tolerance: Any form of cheating, plagiarism, or inappropriate conduct may result in immediate disqualification
Communication Rules
Round-Specific Guidelines
First Round: Team members may collaborate freely with each other during the 3-day window
Second Round: External assistance or unauthorized resources are strictly prohibited during the 60-minute live session
Fair Play: Only collaboration between registered team members is allowed
Academic Integrity
We trust all participants to maintain the highest standards of academic honesty. Any violation of these rules will result in immediate disqualification and may affect future participation eligibility.
